A SYDNEY MYSTERY.

A Mail Train Robbed.

Press Telegraph.-: Copyright. Received August 22, 11.32 p.m. , SYDNEY, August 22. A sensational robbery of the Western mail train has occurred.' On the arrival of the train at Redfern this morning it was discovered that nine ordinary mail bags from the stations, on the Cowra* and Blayney branch line were cut open, and registered bags .extracted and- their contents stolen. They were then registered and afterwards replaced as ordinaries.. Evidently the thief was in a hurry, and overlooked a few registered letters. There is a complete- mystery as to when and how the robbery was committed. So far as is known the bags were intact when- transferred at Blayney to the Western mail. There was no mail van attached, and no postal oificial in charge. Beyond seeing them placed on board in the usual way the railway officials took no further notice of the bags, and they were not aware' of the robbery until the train -reached Sydney. It is believed the amount .missing will not exceed £20.
