Darling won the toss, and sent in Hopkins and Trumper, the former being dismissed with the total at 22. Hill joined Trumper, and a fine stand was made, 185 being on the board before a separation was effected. Trumper's innings occupied two hours and ten minutes, and was marked by fine driving.
