The Wanganui Amateurs have been actively rehearsing the above pretty little comedy, which is to be produced on August the 29th and 30th. Mr Fred Allprcss, who superintended a very successful production in Auckland some years ago, is giving the local amateurs the benefit of his experience, and with the assistance of the following strong cast the production promises to be one of exceptional merit: — Tony Faust, Mr F. Willis; Fanny, Miss Swan; Tina, "My Sweetheart," Miss Pawson; milkmaids, servants, etc., Misses Swan, Scott, Andrews, Co»cli, Allpress, etc. The box plan will be opened shortly and popular prices will be charged.

Mr James Ilogan has booked the Opera House for Wednesday, September 6, when he will deliver a political address.

A sale of work will be held in St. Andrew's Church on September 14th. The ladies of the congregation have been busily engaged for some time preparing artifles for the sale, which promises to be a big success.

A social and concert will be held in the Springvale Church to-morrow night, commencing at 7.30 p.m. A good programme has been arranged, and refreshments will be handed round during the evening. The pricos of admission are only Is aud 6d.

The Spiritual Scientists held a social in the Fire Brigade Hall on Tuesday evening to.oid farewell to Mr Bushby and welcome Mr Roberts, who succeeds him. A varied programme of songs, recitations and musical items was carried out with great success, the younger folk contributing several pleasing items. A mandoline trio with pianoforte accompaniment, and a violin duet were greatly appreciated. Appropriate speeches were made by the president and Messrs Nation, Robert?, and Bushby, and a most successful and pleasant evening closed with "Auld Lang Syne."

One of the best programmes every submitted to a country audience has b:en arranged for the concert in the Okoia Public Hall on Friday evening, the 18th instant. Mr C. Forrest will be seen in several new conjuring tricks and a Aery clever illusion. Mr George Swan will •ontrihute two of his clever and entertaining recitations, and Mr Henry Duigan will be seen in a number of character sketches new to local audiences. Messrs Gilby, O'Hara, Winstone, Tarrant, Finlane, and several of 'our best lady singers have kindly promised to assist. A most amusing musical duologua entitled "A Novel Divorce," will conclude a first-class programme. O'Hara's Orchestra will play during the evening. The return ccach fare* has been fixed at Is and the price of admission Is. As it will be moonlight, a Aery pleasant drive into the country will greatly add to the evening's enjoyment. The supper for the dance is being provided by fclie ladies of Okoia. A brake will conic in directly after the concert, and again after the dance.
