While in

ondon and Croydon he visited several ■butchers' shops and asked if they had any New Zealand meat. "Oh, yes, prime Canterbury lamb," they replied. When he asked them to let him see it, in not one 1 single instance did he see Canterbury lamb;- it was all North Island and Victorian-, par,t of it having the Victorian Government '■stamp on. He visited several of the butchers' shops in Hereford, and there heard the same cry, the .butchers singing out "Prime Canterbury lamb." While there he visited a colonial frozen meat shop, and asked for some Canterbury lamb, and was shown Argentine and Victorian. In not a single instance there did he see Canterbury. They are all selling it as prime Canterbury lamb at from 5d to 6d per lb. -' In one instance they were selling Argentine chilled meat as Canterbury lamb. While at Hereford he visited the stock market. Beef was selling from 45s to 50s per 1001 b, and lamb' (mostly all Shropshire Down) from 40s to 45s each, their weight being 361 bto 401 b each, and fat sheep, from 601 bto 70ib each, 45s to 50s.
