Sir, — The question in to-night's "Herald — "Has the harbour improved?" — and the answer, "No/ should meet the eye of all readers. Those who have read to the end of tho article will see that, notwithstandr ing a large expenditure in the past, voted by good men and true, the bar and flats have really deteriorated since the days when the Malay, LadybirJ, find other vessels of greater draught than those which with difficulty now reach the Town Wharf came up to Wanganui and left again for their destinations without let or hindrance. There is only one way to meet the difficulty. Build a suitable jetty at Castlecliff, where the steamers and vessels' can discharge their cargoes into the railway trucks lying alongside the steamers. The difficulty of getting the goods to town without being handled twice, could be overcome were the town and port to combine for their mutual benefit and that of the Wanganui district, and allow the Castleoliff railway train to share the use of their town railway station. — I am, etc.,
