The following cablegram has been received by th© Industries Commerce Department from the High Commissioner, dated London, 24th: — The mutton market is quiet, with'a good demand for prime quality. Mutton 13 dull of sale for heavy carcases, and buyers are not inclined to make forward purchases of mutton at present prices. The average price to-day for Canterbury mutton, is 4Jd for light weights, and 4d for heavy weights; other North Island mutton 4d for light weights, and 3£d for heavy weights. Th© lamb market will be affected by weather, and high prices are restricting business. The average price today for New Zealand lamb, Canterbury brand is s|d, and for New Zealand lamb, brands other than Canterbury, sid.

The beef market is weak. The weather lately has been unfavourable for the sale of beef. The average price for hindquarters of New Zealand beef is 3U, nnd for forequarteus S£d. * The butter market is very firm. Only smaller supplies arc on hand, and the stock is almost exhausted. The average price for choicest New Zealand butter today is 98s per cwt; Danish 107s. The cheese market is firm. Th© average prices for finest New Zealand cheese to-day is 54s per cwt for white, and 51s per cwt for coloured.
