PRESBYTERY OF WANGANUI.

v fl The Presbytery of Wanganui met in St. Paul's on the 13th ihst. Present — Revs. J. Ross (chair), Eyburn, McCully, Hall, Iliitson, Jolly, and - Morton, and Messrs Mcßoth, McFarlane, Brechin, Matheson, Williamson, Fleming, and Brown, elders. Rec. R. J. Alsworth, being present, was associated. The minutes of the former meetings were read and.-confirmed. A presbyterial certificate was granted to Mr Hutchison, formerly home missionary of Foxton, now of Ashburton. A call from the congregation of Feilding in favour of Rev. George Budd, of Millburn, Otago, was laid on the table by Mr Williamson, session clerk. The was signed by 92 communicants and 47 adherents. The salary offered is .£225 per annum, -witii a manse, or a manse rent. The Rev. I. Jolly, stated ;fchat the call was unanimous, and moved that the Presbytery sustain the call, and that it be forwarded to the Presbytery of Clutha, and that Rev. W. T. Currie be asked to support the call. It was, agreed, in the : event of Mr Budd accepting the call, that j his induction take place on Wednesday, the 19th July, at 3.30 p.m., and that Rev. B. McCully preach, Rev. B. Hutson address the minister, Rev. R. M. Ryburn the people, and Rev. I.- Jolly preside and induct the minister. The Rev. I. Jolly moved, and it was carried on the casting vote of the Moderator: "That this Presbytery thanks the Moderator and clerk of the Assembly for drawing the attention of the Presbytery to the exceptional expense connected with the coming Assembly in. Auckland; and it approves of the question being brought under the consideration of the Assembly whether it is necessary to adopt some exceptional means to meet the difficulty." Mr James McKenzie brought before the notice of the Presbytery the plans for a new church at Kimbolton. The proposed building is to be 30 x 20, and the estimated cost is d£2os, exclusive of painting, but the painting has been promised as a contribution. Mr McKenzie stated that the Committee of Jjimbolton had <£80 in hand towards the erection of the- church, and asked leave to borrow ,£l2O from the New Century Fund. — On the motion of the Rev. R. M. Ryburn, it was agreed that the plans ■be approved of, and the Committee be authorised to borrow from the fund. The Presbytery met as a Maori Mission Committee, and was presided over by the Rev. R. M. Ryburn. Messrs Uru Te Angina and Mare Mare Rupena were present as Maori representatives. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. The Rev. R. M. Ryburn read a petition from several Maori gentlemen asking that three of their number be allowed to sit as a consulting committee with the Maori Mission Committee. — It was xnovei by Rev. A. Morton and agreed to, that the petition be received and the request granted. Mr Uru Te Angina addressed the Committee, thanking the members for their kindness in admitting them as representatives, and pointing out how Maori representatives could help the Committee,, Mr Hamilton's report was read and considered very satisfactory. The convener stated that Miss Mackie, of Otahu, was making an effort to provide a scholarship in her district for one Maori girl. The report of the sub-committee was approved of. The Convener moved, and it was agreed to, that a minister and an elder visit the school before each meeting of the Presbytery and report on the working, etc., of the school. Rev. J. B. Hall and an elder ■from Hunterville were appointed to visit the school before next meeting. It was reported that Dr C. B. limes paid a visit to the school on the sth, and made a medical examination of each of tho girls attending the school. Dr Innes refused to take any fee for his work. On motion of Rev. J. Ross, seconded by Rev. A. Morton, it was agreed that the hearty thanks of the committee be tendered to Dr Innes for his kindness. * A letter was read from Mr Ward, of Tauinarunui, asking that he be granted six weeks' leave of absence to visit throughout the Auckland Presbytery and endeavour to create an interest in the work among the Maoris. — Leave was granted. The committee authorised tho expendi- . ture of .£75 in improvements at Mr Ward's house at Taumarunui. On tho motion of Rev. R. McCully, seconded by Rev. Morton, it was agreed that the executive be given full powers to look into the question of building a bathroom and laundry at Turakina.
