With" the exception of +he Arawa — which lost a little time through fouling the Omaperc — the boats got away well. ITie Bonito — ably sailed by the veteran Fred „.Stringe. Stringer — quickly gained on the long start" boats, and though the Wave had a good •• lead W-hen she rounded the bottom buoy the Bonito made up her leeway very fast on .the" run up, and rounded the top bnoy almost level with the limit boat. Tlie Clipper 11. had also shown her capabilities,, and had drawn up' fairly close. As the beats were running up the sight was a particularly fin-e one, the whole eight boats beyig much closer .together than in any -previous race. Beating down the sacond time the Bonito established a good lead, whilst the Nyoola had sailed into third place before the top buoy was reached the second time, when the Bonito could be seen to have the race at, her ircrcy barring accidents. She sailed merrily on, however, and •eventually^ got horn« .an easy wirm-er. witli tha Nyopl? second and Jthe Maureen third, the. Wave making a very poor showing on the rurf, and dropping back from second to last place. The unplaced b6ats finished with lin a short time of the others. The following were the times of the placed boats : — Messrs A. W. Stringer and Co.'s Bonito ■ (4£ mins start), lh. 49niins 1 Mr. E. Perrett's Nyoola (lmin start)j lh . ( 53' mins , 2 Crane Bros.' Maureen (3mins. start), lh. 55 mins 3 The handicapper, Mr C. F.. Day .is to be congratulated on • the . result •of the race, which was a most interesting .and .pretty one, the light breeze ■enabling the boats to carry all tlieir sail without fear of accident and this addsd to the. attractiveness of the scene. .. •-.-*-
