N.Z. Trades Council Taking Action.

WELLINGTON, January 29. The Trades' Council decided to ask the Mayor to convene a public meeting to protest against the importation of Chinese into South Africa.

In reply to a question in Chriptchurch as to whether he intended to proceed any further in the matter of protesting against the introduction of" Chinese labour^into South Af riot, Mr Seddon answered in the affirmative. "I shall now -propose," he said '•that a referendum bet aken — that the people of* the Transvaal be allowed to decide. And," he added, "I am quite, sure the Boers won't tolerate Chinamen, and. l am certain . that Kruger would never- have!-^permitted the introduction, of Asiatics under any circumstances.
