THE PARAPARA ROAD.
Thanks to the vigilance of our member, Mr Willis, the position, so far as ; the • Parapara Road is concerned, , has once again been saved. Mr Willis discovered that, notwithstanding that a sum of^£sso had been specifically allocated for road formation, it was being absorbed on. the ,-. improvement and maintenance of the track. Our member proceeded at once "to Wellington and interviewed the head o,f the Department, who supplied figures showing that out of the «£550 already ,£122 18s had been authorised for expendi- . ture on the bridle-tract. ' Mr" Willis then sought out the Premier and protested strongly against this misappropriation of the allocation and succeeded in in* ducing the Premier to, agree to the expenditure of the whole ,of .the • ,£550 vote on the road, notwithstanding the authorisation of 18s .for . the track ; and Mr Seddon further promised - "that the full amount would be 1 authorise^. .. by the Cabinet that very day^,- Ifr;, -r, Willis ' is deserving, of the best thaftk* > ■ • of the people .of .^W* 11^ 30 . 1 "- v'^or ..Bia^ watchfulness and prompt 'action in pre-, i. 1 serving intact this allocation for the Parapara Road.
