PAHIATUA ITEMS.
(Per United 1 Press Association.) PAHIATUA, June 12. Mr Laing Meason has been appointed as engineer to carry out the high-pressure water and drainage works in Pahiatua. A public meeting was held last evening at , Mangatainoka of settlers from the Coonoor, Waione, Eising Sun,' and Makairo districts. It "was decided to meet Mr O'jieara, M.H.U., ap.d discuss the proposal to make the track . over the Waiwepa Bange fit for wheel traffic. It is estimated this would cost ri£3ooQ, and sitch a road would divert thousands of pounds' wofrth of business into the Mangatainoka find Pahiatua districts which now .goes to Dannevirke at extra cost to the settlers. A deputation was appointed to meet Mr Seddon and Sir Joseph Ward, who have consented to attend a banquet to be tendered Mr O'Meara in aVmt a fortnight's time. <Tho deputation will urge the completion of the work.
