Pollard's Opera. Company.
The popularity of the Pollards was again demonstrated last evening, when a large audience assembled at the Opera House to witness their latest production, "The Toreador." The opera is brighk'3>d sparkling, it was well staged, as indeed all' the operas "are by the Pollards, and the dressing was exceptionally good. From a spectacular ' point of view, therfore, "The Toreador" was an undoubted success, and that it was well played -»oes without saying, though it is difficult to, imagine that Mr Percy is anyone but Mr Percy, by reason of the fact that he cannot hide 'his individuality, and the same may be said of Messrs Quealy and Stephens, who are bo familiar to Waganui audiences. Mi/ Aylmej: should; prove an acquisition to the company, and his impersonation ,of the A young baronet .last evening was undoubtedly good. Of the vocal efforts of the performers little, need be said. The voices are not nearly so strong' as in f onfier years and some of the jiarts were lamentably weak iri the choruses. Miss Connie''Buttel and Mr O'Connor were the 'exceptions, and their - spirited singing waa heartily applauded. • -'"" •"
