to the Empire.

AUCKLAND, March 12. The address prepared for presentation to the Premier states: — 'In Parliament your quick interpretation ,of the loyal feelings of the colonists enabled New Zealand's gallant Bons to display their readiness to fight for the honour and integrity of the Empire. The enthusiasm with which they re-; sponded to the call made by your Government for the troops, and who hare bravely acquitted- themselves -in the stress of the war, have become matters of history. The encomiums- of the Eng-ii»h-epeaking people, and the manner that New Zealand espoused the* Empire's cause, is largely due to your foresight and discretion. We wish to convey our thanks for your statesmanlike prosecution of a policy which has otfr unstinted support and approval." It has been finally decided that the public gathering to farewell the Premier will ue on Wednesday evening, opposite the Municipal buildings. A platform will be erected for the speakers, and it will be properly lighted. Subscriptions of one shilling and upwards are being received. The subscribers' names will be printed without amounts, and will be forwarded to Christchurch for the added names of subscribers, in other parts of the colony. . ..,.."
