Methuen and MagersfOntein. Lord Roberts' Eulogy.
LONDON, March 10.
Lord Boberts, referring to General Lord Methuen's action at Magersfontein, says that after a careful survey of the, Boer position at that place he wa* convinced that Methnen had been given an almost impossible task, and was net blameable for hia failure to relieve Kimberley. Since then he Lad distinguished himself by the zeal and intelligence he had shown, and his perseverance had not sustained a check. He was beloved by his men. No work was too hard for him. Lord Methuen had more than once assisted and looked after De Larey's family, and he wss convinced from the humane and civilised manner* in which De Larey acted throughout that Lord Methuen would be well cared for by him.
