The Christmas Tree held in tha Christ Church schoolroom on Saturday evening in aid of the St. John's Sunday School realised .£ls 10s. Ensign and Mrs Mathers were duly installed as the officers for the "Wancanui corps of the Salvation Army by Major Evans yesterday. A good crowd assembled to hear them last night and received them most enthusiastically. Major Evans continues the special series of meetings to-night and Wednesday, assisted by Mrs Evans and a lot of visiting officers. The Bishop of Wellington administered the rite of confirmation at St. Mary's, Upokongaro yesterday morning, delivered an instructive address at the flower service at Christ Church in the afternoon, and confirmed 31 candidates at the Collegiate Chapel in the ' evening. Christ Church was very prettily decorated, and the flower service was a great success. Thiß morning the Bishop unveiled a memorial window in the Collegiate School Chapel* in memory of those "Old Boys" who had fallen in the South African war. Temperance Sunday was observed yesterday in several of the local churches, and sermons_ appropriate to i the occasion were preacnea by lhe~ Revs. H. R. Dewsbury, (Trinity Wesleyan Church), R. M. Rybnrn (St. Paul's), A. Dewdney (Baptist), and J. Cocker (Primitive Methodist). To-night a temperance meeting will be held in St. Paol's Hall at 8 o'clock, when ad-dresses-will be delivered by the Revs. H. R. Dewsbury, A. Dewdney, J. Cocker, and. others. Pledge books will be supplied. The public are invited to attend the meeting. There will be no collection.
