MATAONGAONGA ROAD BOARD.
The usual monthly meeting of the above was held at noon to-day, when there were present — Messrs R. Neilson (chairman), J. Hogg, J. Anderson, and J. Jones. RANGER— Mr W.. F. Wall was appointed ranger for the district. LIBRARY—A letter was read from the Wanganui County Council suggesting that the Board should give its views upon the suggestion to contribute to the Public Library. After discussion, it was decided that the Board cannot see its way to contribute. SHELL ROCK— The District Engineer of Railways wrote stating that the price for .the supply of shell rock' would be about 10s per truck, in addition to which the Board would have to pay freight, which would be 13s per ton for lots of under 4 tons or 6s lid per ton for lots of 4 tons and over. The trucks would hold about 4J or 5 tons.
ROAD GRADER — A letter was received from the Wanganui County Council, stating that they would hire the road-making machine at the rate of 35s "per day. It was decided, after discussion, that the Board purchase a machine. , , DISTRICT ROADS— It was decided to consent to the request of the County Council to declare the whole of the roads within the Mataongaonga Road District district roads. The chairman and- Mr Jones voted for the motion, and Messrs Joi^orson jtzid Hopg against. The' chairman gave his casting vote in. favour of the request. CLEARING GORSE.— Mr R. Grace applied for an extension of time in grubbing the gorse on the road adjoining his , property.— lt was decided to reply that the order of the Board must be complied with. LONG ACRE VALLEY.— Messrs W. Neilson, Forlong, Anderson, and McGrail waited on the Board and asked that the Long Acre Valley be sanded, and it was decided to call for tenders for 600 yards of metal to be delivered between the No. 5 milerpost and Mr Gray's gate, and 700 yards from Mr Cavanagn's gate onwards. DRAIN.— Mr Dexter, on the invitation of the Board, attended regarding the drain through his property and the desire of the -Board to have it opened up. Having given the Board his views of the matter, the chairman informed him that the Board would do nothiig further in the meantime. , OVERFLOW.— Mrs W '"8.. G. Foster waited upon the Board and asked what had been done regarding^ the water complained of by her some time ago. The chairman informed Mrs Foster that Mr McGregor was averse to having the old watercourse opened up, but that ho was willing that a drain should he put; along his boundary to the creek. —It was resolved that the chairman ascertain the cost of opening up the drain and putting a culvert across the »»nd. CULVERTS. — Only one tender was received for erecting the brick culverts, that of Messrs Smith and Norton at .£BO, and it was decided to have 11 v work done uy day labour. x'URZE. — It was reßolved to il>t».n the Board's solicitor's opinion as to whether it had taken the proper btans to have the furze cleared off the roads, and to act on his advice. Accounts were passed for payment, and the Board adjourned.
