THE MUSEUM FAIR.

TO BE OPENED ON THURSDAY.

The annual fair in aid of tho 'funds of tho Museum will be opened, on Thursday afternoon, and if we are to judge by the amount of energy displayed by the ladies who have' been for some months interesting themselves in the matter, the function should bo a great success. A note in the advertisement should be carefully < perused by our readers. It is as follows: — The Museum is useful to both town and country, and is therefore deserving of support. Everyone is asked to help and donations, however small, for the above stalls will be thankfully accepted at the. Museum by the Hon. Curator or any of the trustees. We feel sure that those that can assist will do so; be their donation ever so small it will be welcome. At the Ladies* Work Stall, under the direction of Mrs Haines will be found all kinds of serviceable articles, of wear for men, women and children. Tlie Produce .Stall is under the charge of Mrs Hope-Gib-bons, and will contain food of al{ sorts, game, poultry, pickles, vegetables, ,etc., etc. In the Lollie Stall will be sold home-made lollies, cakes, chocolate nicies, confectionery, etc., eto. The Refreshment Rooms, under direction of Mesdames J. D. Greig and; Saynor Griffiths are sure to be well patronised,; and prove profitable. {The fair could not be complete without a gipsy; tent, which will bo run by Miss Lejrdon. At 8) meeting of the Trustees held last night, (Mr J. H". Nixon, President, in tho- chair) after the transaction of some formal business, final arrangements in. connection with the fair were made. Briefly -stated, the main object for which the fair ia to be held is to raise funds to pay current expenditure, the, trustees having* no money at command or in hand wherewith to carry on the Museum — an institution, we venture to remark, which should enlist the sympathy, 1 and command the support, of every one, old and young, citizens 'of Wanganui, our country friends and settlers generally. The Museum is constantly receiving fresh exhibits, curiosities, natural history and ethnological objects, etc., and the space at the dis- , posal of the worthy Curator and his assistants is severely taxed in order to make room for the many accessions, pouring -in Jxpm. all quarters. -A new room, consequently, ;s to be" added shortly to the ; Museum, ' at a, cost of .£25. It" is, to,. meet the demands for this and other' necessary matters 'that tho fair is about to be held, the charge for admission ' to * winch! oh Thursday and Friday next, will be the very -modest' sum of sixpsnea (6d,) for adults and children of dotti sexes.' Mr' James Armstrong's orchestra "have ' generously offored to play on ,Thursday evening, whilst Mr Hooper's string band willplav on Friday evening? So that there will b 6 plenty of really good amus3inont, s as well as plenty 'to look at and' purchase, and there will also bo lots of 'good things to eat and drink. We fnlly expect to see> x the' Museum. Hall crowded on both days, afternoon and evening. In order to make room for those' who will bo busy making the necessary preparations, tho Museum proper will 'be closed on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday this waek. ' ?
