JOHNSONVILLE, August 31. Freeman R. Jackson and Co., in coulunction with Messrs Abraham and Wilnams, report as to their Johnsouvilla .toek Gale as follows ■ — Fat cattle were in full numbers. A portion of the trade having purchased outside during the week was doubtless icsponsible for the somewhat slow bidding at fir9t existing. The tone, howover, shortly improved, resulting in a snlisfactory average price for the whole. Good quality bullocks (haody weights) advanced Is the 100 lbs; prices range fiom 19s to 225; large prime oxen made to .£9 15a, good medium bullocks £8 to £8 17s 6d down to £7 12s fid for lighter weights. Fat sheep, in limited numbers, were of second-rate to medium quality, and «iade full value. Fat wethers 17s 6d to 17a 31d, light ditto 16s Id, poor to barely medium ewea 133 5d to 14a lid.

At tho usual fortnightly meeting of the AYanganui Musical and Literary Society, held in the Wesleytin schoolroom on Monday evening, two shoit impromptu debates were held, the ;pcakcrs being Messrs Fownall, Bird, Simpson, R. Bond, and Ball. Pianoforte SDlections were contributed by Miss 'Willis and Mr Austin, a cornet luDt by Messrs Henley and A. Bird, jongs by Miss Blyth and Messrs F. jj-all and G.
