DEATH UNDER SINGULAR CIRCUMSTANCES.

DUNEDIN,- March 13.

A death under somewhat singular circumstances occurred at St. Clair Beach this afternoon. John Heartley, a seaman, was seen to undress opposite the Esplanade and go into the water. He' rolled about among the surf, and then stood up. He was seen apparently to fall down, and the rollers carried him out. When examined life was not extinct, but before Dr Watt could arrive from the Forbury Camp the man was dead. He had been employed lately as nightwatchman on the steamer Rimu, and had b.'on drinking 1 somewhat heavily.
