BETTER NEWS.

The cables we publish m another column reialiro to the advance of the relief column on Ladysmith have a hopeful ring about them, and we but voice the sentiments of Britishers in all parts of the world when we say that wo hope to hear in a day or two at most of the dccieive success of our gallant men and of the relief of the beleaguered town. Up till the last week or two the great numencal supcnoiity of the enemy and the btiatogical advantages of their position have pievented any important move m the direction of reherinsj General While and his bind of brave heroes, who ha\o, 6ince November 2nd, gallantly resisted the attacks of o\ crwhelming forces. General Buller seems to have outmanoeuvred the Boers, and the British forces under, Geueials AVarrcu and Lyttelton, have advanced in a diroc tien the Boers vero not prepared for. They are approaching Ladysmith on the west, and as they havo received reinforcements not only of men but of oief guns, we may expect at any moment to he ir of them uniting with Gcneril Bul'cr in a determined effort to drivo the Boer forces out of Natal. General Buller has told his troops Tiadysmith must bo relie\ed — we presume, at onee — and there will be no turning back. Wo await further news with hopefulness.
