Tho advent of a largo number of visitors to witness the departure of tho Contingent is likely to assist in there being a record attendance at the Wellington Racing Club's Slimmer Meeting, winch opens on Monday. There is no straight-out wagering on tho Cup, Boreas being nominal favourite, with Djin Djin and Eosella next in favour. At the Hutt to-day the horses worked on the outside racing track. Djin Dun, Sylvia Park, and Pitch and Toss were tho hrst of the Cup candidates to put in an appearance, each accomplishing a serviceable task, but they were not extended. Boreas is looking in tip-top fettle. He rattled off a milo and a quarter with Tortulla in 2min 19eec, the Cup horse having tho best of it. Kosella, who appears to ha\p a great heart, ran the Clip distance with neck sweaters on. The last sis furlongs were finished in limn 23sec, but the filly could have done better. Te Hapuku was absent swimming, and the trainer is experiencing some difficulty with his "dicky" leg. It is believed, however, that he will be able to fulfil his Cup engasenient. Advance was ridden out ouco round in Srnin, going pleasingly, and finishing strong. The majority of tho horses engaged in tho minor events were worked before breakfast, but there was no attempt at watch-breaking.
