A LADY'S PATRIOTIC SUGGESTION.
The following letter was received "yeei -j? terday by the Mayor:— , • - , Jtt Mr Hatrick, Mayor, Wanganui." -. ■»" Your Worship,— - <-.*_ .< v - As you require a lot more fnnds'to '- send our Wanganui representatives ~ tor the front in this time of need, will yolf kindly give my suggestion a little consideration. Most of the women of Wa». ganui are daughters 6f old soldiers of Wangamu, who Tiave fought for the "i Queen and country in the olden times. ; I now propose that you .call a meeting ~ ' of all Wanganui ladies who care to come , forward to help to prepare a grand patriotic tea meeting, to be held in the Drill Hall as soon as convenient. I, for one,' am willing to give a table or assist any - other lady who cares to take part. IS am sure we could raise a- large amount - from the "absent-minded beggars" o£ * Wanganui, and those ladies who can do - a little will not he backward in coming" forward to help. in this time of need. -, Ten or twelve largo tables will bfr all J . that are required to fill the hall. Of -- course we shall expect the Garrison tof L* give the hall free of charge, and the- - printing of tiokots, adyertising, etc.,^ could .jo got equally cheap. Theli, after =- ' tho tea, a grand concert could be ar- ''• ranged for by local amateurs. r'A good, .- tea meeting always takes on. in-trar^fittle 1J '- town, no matter what it is in aid pf; -nidi .^ ' I am certain that one held to send, bur.-'-* very, own Wanganui boys to Tflw-fiqnlf."-would be a record one, and would be BUp/4*fe ported by ono and all of the community.^ 5 Ii your Worship will give my suggestion, c-\ a little consideration, I, 1 " for one, : £hall^¥ do all I can to make it a grand Bttoces£ V Kindly let mo know, privately or otherggg wise, your opinion of this, my own pr&SI? P°sal. ■*«£
