MEETING OF THE COMMITTEE.

Thorc was a representative attendance of ladies and gentlemen yesterday afternoon at tho meeting of the committee to discuss matters in connection with the sending of 25 'nea from Wanganui to join tho proposed Third Contingent from New Zealand. The Mayor presided, and at his suggestion a number of names vf re added to the committee. Mr S. T. Fitzherbert announced that he had received a telegram from Western Australia on behalf of the Wilkic Bios,, requesting him to donate .£lO 10s rach (,£2l) on their behalf. Mr Fitzherbert also intimated that his services were not available for the contingent, but that he had pleasure in handing in his chequo for .£7O, which amount, he understood, was necessary to equip man and hoise. Without making it a condition in any way, ho would like, if possible, to nominate his own substitute. A letter was read from Mr Alfred Burnett, of Fordell, reporting that at a meeting held thcro on Thursday evening the sum of ,£SO 19s 6d (.£34. being in produce) was aubscribed in the room, and it had been decided to canvass the district, a committee being appointed for that purpose. Mrs Williamson intimated that a meeting of the Wanganui Women's Political League was to be held this afternoon to consider the advisability of equipping nurses for the Contingent, and the application of Nurse Jacques was referred to the League.
