BOERS COMPLETELY OUTMANCEUVRED.
QUITE UNPREPARED AND UNAWARE OF BRITISH ADVANCE. THE CROSSING ACCOMPLISHED UNDER DIFFICULTIES. THE ENEMY OFFER NO RESISTANCE. Received January 20, 9.35 a.m. DURBAN, January 19. On first arriving near Potgietcr's Drift on tho 10th, Lord Dundonald found tho Boers quite unprepared. They were totally unaware of his proximity, aB many were bathing. The crossing of the Tugela at Potgieter's Drift on the 16th by Lyttelton's Brigade was accomplished under great difficulties. The troops waded the awollen river, the water being waist high, and to prevent themselves being carried off their feet the men grasped one anOthor's rifles. The opposite bank was thus reached in safety, the enemy meanwhile offering virtually no opposition.
