CAPTAIN REID RETIRES FROM COMMAND OF NO. 2 COMPANY.
WELLINGTON, January 18. At the last moment there aro likely to be some changes in tho personnel of No. 2 Company. It is reported that C.vptain Reid, owing to urgent private business, will be unable to go, and Lieutenant Hutson is spoken of as likely to succeed him, with SergeantrMajor Montgomerie as Lieutenant. Lieutenant Todd, of the Newtown Rifles, Auckland, who captured tho Maxim gun at Saturday's sham fight, has been placed on the lißt as a supernumerary. One of the buglers, aggrieved at being refused tho seniority ho considered his due, has refused to sign ai tides. It may bo irentioned that Captain Reid was not present at the review this morning, Later. The reason of Captain Reid'b rptiiement from No. 1 Company is not, as at first reported, owing to the demands of his private business. Captain Reid states that he has been deprived of his command by Major Cradock, who expressed dissatisfaction with his capacity for the position and refused to allow him to retain it.
