A Sydney clergyman hoasted the other day that "he had been 40 jears in New South Wales, and never once on tire Randwick racecourse." To offset him (saj s the Sydney Telegraph) can bo produced a bow-legged jockey who has attended every rate meeting held during that timo, and never once been inside a church Two jockeys, named Waite and Furlong, while riding hoises round Mr Bidwells's track on Fiiday at Gieytown Nfirth, came in contact with straggling sheep and both turned somersaults. Both boys were picked up unconscious. Furlong re mained so for a few hours, and Waite was inseubible for several days. Waite has received poncussiou of the brain, has broken his gollarboEe, and is severely bruised. We aro indebted to Mr J. At the Magistrate's Court this morning, before Mr C. C. Kettle, S.M., Alexander Miller and Charles King weie charged with stealing £3 from Timothy John Cullinane at Mangamalm on March 19th, 1898. The evidence was to the effect that on the day before the races at Mangamahu Cullinane took a wager of 2 to 1 on Cairo (£0 to £3). Miller received the money (£3) and both Miller and King called the odds together. The horse Cairo won and Cullliuane applied for payment on the course after the races, but King ignored all responsibility and said Miller was the responsible party as he had the money. Witness gaid he looked to King for the money, although he knew Miller and King were partners, Cullinane then came into towu and laid an information, After which King saw the prosecutor and offered to settle, but the Jatter said he could not interfere as the matter was in the hands of the police. The information was dismissed, His Worship considering that there was no criminal intent to de? fraud the prosecutor at the time the bet was made. Several similar charges were withdrawn.
