NATIVE MEETING AT HUNTLY.

Auckland, March 30.

At the native meeting at Huntly yesterday, the Hon. James Carroll enunciated the Government policy with regaid to native lands. In addition to stopping further sales either to the Government or private persons, and giving power to Maoris to lease tho same, it is intended to make provision for landless natives and set apart reserves for native settlement, and generally assist the natives in becoming industrious settlors. It is also proposed to simplify or abolish the Native Land Courts. They would seek to establish land boards, and do all that was needful in tho way of analysing loases for the benefit of the natives. He urged the Maoiis to favourably consider these proposals, and come to some definite arrangement with him. The Henare Kaib.au section hold out for the Maoris to have the administration of their own lands, but the Government will not givo way on that point. Great preparations are being made for the Premier's visit. He is expected to arrive on Monday from Rotorua.
