Englishmen v. South Australia.

Glorious weather and a splendid wioket favoured the first day's play of the ieturn match, Englishmen v. South Australia. The bowling was very fast. Jones played havoc with the Englishmen, and was responsible for their* moderate score. Stoddart made his best score of the tour in first-class matches. Board's innings was a merry one. Ranjitsinhji Bhowed excellont cricket. McLaren did not take part in the match. Things looked bad for the Englishmen at the outset, but Hayward and Ranji. altered tho position of affairs, although the runs only came slowly. Jones missed Stoddart at four off his own bowling. Board had a couple of lives. Darling and Lyons wero shaping extremely well when the stumps were drawn. The former made a tremendous hit foi five. The batsmen had 50 up in 35 minutes.
