WANGANUI REGATTA.
The annual Regatta takes place to* morrow, the first race starting at 1.30 p.m. sharp. Although the entries are not large for the senior rowing events, the special attractions offered in the way of Maori canoe races promise to more than compensate for the paucity of starters in the other contests. The races will be rowed over the old championship course (from above the railway bridge), the winning post being between Lowther and Barrack Streets. In all, seventeen events are to be decided- eight rowing and nine canto races. The first Contest will be for the Maiden Fours, for which six crews have entered, and an exciting race should be wituessed. The Wellington men are | light, while, on the other hand, tboth the Aramoho and Wanganui U.B.C. have heavy crews. The two latter should fight, out the finish, The contests for the senior races will be practically between Aramoho and the Wanganui 8.C., and though the latter should make a big bid for victory the better form of the former should lead them to victory. Unfortunately, Arthur Lewis, the stroke of the Wanganui R.C.s junior crew, has been laid 'up for some time with influenza, and last evening' Dymock had to take his place. Lewis, however, intends to start in one race, and, on past reputation, should win, provided, of course, h« oan stand the, " gruelling." He may also start in the other junior event; and should also secure the judge's verdict. The College will probably easily defeat the Wanganui R.C.s crew, as they are rowing well. The positions will probably be :— Maiden Foots. Aramoho, No. I—J.1 — J. Haywood (stroke), W. Haywood (3), A. 1 Haywood (2). F. Haywood (bow) 1 Wanganai U.B.C— Jn. Carrell (stroke), H. Davis (3), R.
