EDUCATION BOARD.

The usual monthly meeting of the Wanganui Education Board commended last evening, when there were present — Messrs J. W. Baker (chairman), F. M. Spurdle, G. S. Bridge, B. C. Robbins, J. A. Fry, i F. Pirani, F. Y. Lethbridge, and Rev. J. | Ross. Ewjction— The chairman notified the re-election of Mr Spurdle and the Rev. J. Boss. Appointments. The following appointments were dealt with in committee and confirmed: — Mr . G. Lyall to Brunswick ; Mr H, M. Payne (Kakaramea) to Hawera, first assistant. Cadets— Helen Nutt at Marton, Cecil Oox ) at Sandon, R. Williamson at Okiawa. Wanganui Girls^Miss A. Beaven was ' granted twelve months' leave of absence owing to ill-health, the Board expressing regret ai her temporary enforced retirement. Miss Small appointed first year junior assistant. Transfers— Miss L. M. Hare from Infants' School to St John's and Miss J. Blair from St John's to Infants' School. Leave of Absence — Leave of absence on ■ account of ill-health was granted to N. McNicol, pupil teacher, Warrengate, two weeks ; A. Buckler, Porewa, one week ; J. Cheyne, assistant teacher, Patea, a month ; ( T. Relling, pupil teacher, Apiti, till end of April ; E. Laird, head teacher, .Westmere, ' three months ; Mr Payne, Kakaramea, to i attend Supreme Court sittings at New Plymouth as a witness. ' Relieving Tfachers — Resolved to offer the position of relieving teacher to Miss Shortall in lieu of Miss Small, and Mr D. Opie in lieu of Mr G. Lyall ; Miss Voltz, of Waituua, to be appointed pupil teacher at Rongotea if Mr Opie acceptß the post of relieving teacher. Nikao— Resolved that Mr Matthews be allowed to apply for a suitable vacancy should the attendance at this school not improve. Kakaiumea — Resolved that subject to the approval of the School Committee a ! relieving teacher be at once sent to this school, and that Mr Payne leave for Hawera on the arrival of the relieving teacher. WANQAEnn— The report of Mr Bridge, recommending that this site be not handed i back to Mr Blyth, was adopted. Lonobdrn — 30s passed for tarring paths. Wateb Supply — Applications for tanks and well at Mangaonoho and Waverley held over. Kakuuscea — Decided to purchase shed from Mr H. M. Paynere for £7. Makotoru— Letter from Mr G. Hutchison, M.H.R., stating that arrangements for completing the taking over of the site of 10 acres were almost settled. Marton — Letter from the School Commissioners asking the Board to pay the Committee's accounts. It was decided to reply that the Board did not recognise any responsibility in the matter. An amendment, moved by Mr Spurdle, to the effect that the Board pay the accounts, lapsed for want of a seconder. . The. Board adjourned till 9.30 this morning. .The Board resumed at 9.30 this (Tuesday) morning, the same members being in attendance, with the addition of Mr G. A. Maclean, the following resolution was \ passed :— That Mr Maclean be informed that the resolution passed at the last 1 meeting of the Board was not in any way ' intended as a reflection upon him, but the state of things referred to was the excessive strain put on the children through I their milking duties.
