The rain that has fallen since last evening, light (hough it has been, has given general satisfaction, as the gardens and pasturage are in a deplorable condition in consequence of the long dry season. Residents in the outskirts of the town for some time past have had to cart and carry water for household purposes from long distances, and butter and milk suppliers have been in sore straits through shortage of feed for their stock. As showing the results of the dry teason, one butter maker informed us that he is milking 20 cows and only making 201bs of butter per week, as against 100 to 1501bs from tho same number of cows in a good season.
