HARBOUR BOARD.

The usual monthly meeting of the Wan- j ganui Harbour Board was held this af tov- 1 noon, when there were presenl^-MBBsrs D. Peat (chairman), F*. B. Jackson, !S. Stevenson and A* EUlott. Apologies were received frotft the Ilayor ancl Messrs Parsons, Ritchie, Higgle and Wisoey. Explanation : Mr SteVAnson esplainea that his absence irrt'itt the last Board meeting Was unavoidable, as he had to proceed to Wellington on important business. The chfelrman said he understood the motion re rescinding the resolution _pass*d at a previous meeting in connection with proceeding with the dredgtag would be adjourned owing t8 tue absenco, through illness, of Mr ■fftt'ekbon, who had given notice of the motion. He had accordingly not attended the last Board meeting, as he also had other business. Pilot's Rcroni: Tho Pijots reported that the channel over tift feat was still shifting south x and wto Very narrow, with a depth of Ifth bl water at high water spring t»d6s and 9ft at neaps. There is a second channel through the North Spit, which is not workable, owing to there being two feet less water than in the South ; channel, consequently the outgoing scour is divided between the two channels-. Altogether it Is in a Very bad state. Question oi? x Pilot; A letter was rtoeivea from the Collector of 'Customs drawing attention t6 the fatt that Captain Chambers of tUo Stormbird recently acted as pilot tt) the b s Fanny between the Heftd4 Wharf and the s s Indraghiri in th& roadstead. The Act provided that a colonial pilot Bhall not act as local at any port unless duly licensed by the Har» bour Board. Captain Chambers does not hold a license as coastal pilot. It was decided to write to the Marine Department on the matter.
