A serious outbreak has occurred at Bombay in connection with ths suppression of the plague. A party of officials were attacked by natives while ascertaining the cause of the illness of a Mohammedan woman. The party were dispersed' The police interferea, but wero Btonea. They then firea on the mob, killing four of the rioters and wounding several others. The excitement spread like wildfire, the Hindoos joining the Mohammeaans in resisting the authorities. Two privates of the Shropshire Regiment were killed while walking in the street, ana tha Enropean officers of the police were severely handled. Several wore seriously wounded. &. number of Europeans were beaten and stabbed in the bazaars, ambulances were burnt, and attempts made to set fire to the hospitals. The European nurses narrowly escaped with their lives. The surgeon of the Jamßetjei Hospital ■was badly wounded. The rioters wore repelled after several were killed. The outbreak is the most alarming that has occurred for many years. Bombay is now in ths hands of th* military, and the excitement is canning down.
