Dredging the Flats.
Estimated Cost £5564 11s Bd,
The Foreman of Works (Mr G. Gerrie) reported on the cost of dredging the flats through with a width of a 200 ft channel. The estimate given included only the actual dredging, and did not include any gear or lost time, or the alterations of punts to hopper decks. The cost of dredging with "steamer, on a basis of 12Dyard3 p6r day was— Two men on dredge 225, steamer per day £3 ss, tv/o men emptying punt 16s, coal, oil.etc. ; total, Is Jd per cubic yard. To dredge a' channel from No. 6 beacon to No. 13— 4900x200x3=109,000 cubic yards, aj; Is Jd, £55G4 11s Bd. " The total number of fine days required to do tho work would be 900. It was decided, after a' short discussion, to call a special meeting of tbe Board in a fortnight to reconsider the question, when a report of the estimate of repairing the Bridge, the breakwater, and t protecting the flagstaff would be presented by the Foreman.
