Smoke Concert.

The visiting competitors wore entertained at 1 a sirtoke concert at Brennan's Metropolitan Hotel last evening. His Worship'the Mayor (Mr 'A. Hatridk) presided, Mr E. W. Andrews occupied the vice-chair, and there was a representative attendance. The visitors were cordially wolcOtned by the Mayor in a happy speech in opening the proceedings, which were of a thoroughly enjoyable' 'Character. The tables wero tastefully laid out, tindMrand Mrs Bretman and their-assistants did all in their power to make the 'entertainment successful. A lengthy toast list had been prepared, and sandwiched between the. speeches werp a number pf vooal items by Messrs, M.QWtfiU. G, Lurking., E. Jones, G. Brown, J.W. Day and H.Neverman. The toasts honoured were — " The Queen," proposed by t'<e chairman ; « ArAatany Swimming Association of N,Z,," proposed by Mr H- W, Andrews, and responded to by Messrs Riob, Truscott and Hamilton; " The Visitors," proposed by Mr W, J. Mahouey, and responded to by Mr Day (8t George's Club) ; <• Wanganui Swimming Club and offioiaU," Mv Dymookj " The Press," Mr Bannister ; " The Ladies," the chairman 'j and " The Chahman," Mr Day. During the evening the prizes were presented to. the successful competitors by the Mayor. The proceedings were brought to a close by singing "AuldLang Syne."
