The Wanganui Amateur Swimming Club's championship meeting i'j being held at the Corpoiation Baths tins afteinoon m the piesence of a big crowd of interested spectator. As this ib the fust meeting ever held in Wanganui under the auspices of the N.Z.S.A., and as theie are entiies from the chffoient paits of the colony, including tome of New Zealand's best peiformeis in the water, moie than the usual interest attaches to the gathering. Amongst those fiom outside competing are — B. Truscott (Cluistchuich), the present 100 yds champion of New Zealand : J. M. Hamilton (Napier) the champion plunger; Rich and Cower, the Lyttelton lepiesentathes; Ciabbo, the Wellington champion; and St Goiton (Rangitikei), tlje e\-Collogiate School champion. Everything connected with the Baths appears spotlebsly clean, thanks to the careful attention bestowed by the cuiotaker and Mis Mow tell. The vaiious officials are all at their appointed stations, aiid the airangements are of a very complete character, for which the energetic and popular nearctary of the club, Mr W. J. Mahonoy, is to bo'cougtaculate.'], The first event on the programme was the" 75 yards maiden, for which there were five entries, bat only two faced the starter— Pownail and Perrett. The latter won by a little over a yard. The school boys' handicap was well contested and was won by Master pQwnall. The first puze for tbe neatest dive was kwai-ded to the Wellington representative, though ii)any thought Master Teirett should lia\e been placed in tho honomed position. The following are the results up to tho hour of going to press >. — 75 Yards (Maiden) : W. Porrett 1, C. Pownail 2. Onh 1 starters. Won by a couple of jaids. Time, 01 l-sth sec. " 50 Yards Schooi.iio^s' Handicap: N. Pownail, lOsec, 1 ; B. Willis, 12sec, 2 ; F. House, 7sec, 3. Five staited. Campbell and Borlase, who v. eie on sciatch, and came in second and thud lespectively, Were disqualified for starting before the sigpal. Good race, toon by two yards. Time, SSsec. Newest Divk: P, Orabbe (Wellington), 29 out of 30 points, 1 ; W. Brennan, §7, 2 ; W. Perrett, 3. J. M. Hamilton (Napier), E. R. Willis and E. E. Larking also competed. Penett and Hamilton tied w ith 20 points each, and in the jump off, the local representative won. In the opinion of many, Master Perot's diving was points ahead of any of the others. J-mile CnAJiMoxsinr or N.Z. : H. Rich (Lyttelton) 1, A. B. Truscott (Canterbury) 2, J. M. Hamilton (Napier) 3. P. Crabbe (Wellington) and R. McGregor and D. St Gorton (Wanganui) also started. Won by half a length of t the bath, Hamilton nearly a length behind the secord man, and McGregor three yards behind Hamilton, Theso worfl the only men to finish. Time, Cmin 46 2-sth sec. The standard (6min 50sec) was thus beaten.
