HOSPITAL BOARD.

The usual monthly meeting of tho Wangatnii District Hospital Board wns held this (Wednofday) morning. Thero were pres3iit--Mrs F. A. Stowart, Messrs A, J. Parsons (chairman), 11. K. Simpson, G. W. dollina, E. E. Fletcher, J. P. Lethbridge, E. H. Humphrey, W. Ritchie, and J, Laird. Bank Book : The bank book showed tt debit of £21 13s 4d. The Eiditr Hocus' System tor Nohsks : Tho secretary reported that the executive of the Board had decided not to inteifpro at present with tho question of hours foi nurses at the' Hospital, pending the appointment of a resident medical officer. The matron (Miss Warmington) wrote stating that tho Board's resolution .passed in April last \c the adoption of the eight hours' system at the institution, had not been given effect to, as the piobationers were not competent to take chaige of the wards in tho absence of the muses, and if tho eight hours' system were mtro j duced the patients would not be so well cared for. Probationers: The names of Miss Kathleen Beasley and Hiss Eva Forlong were added to tho list of probationers. Resident Surgeon: The conditions drawn up by the executive for the resident surgeon were lead by the secretary and adopted. Amongst the conditions were that he should devote the whole of his time to the service of the Board, attend the Jubilee Home at least once a week, and when necessary outdoor charitable aid patients, the salary to be £250 per annum. It was decided to write to the Board's medical officers to the effect that the Board intended to appoint a resident medical officer, and to invite suggestions from them as to the appointment of aa honorary consulting stuff. It was also decided to leave the matter of taking preliminary steps in tho matter of the appointment to the executive. The Alexander Bequest: The chairman reported that the Boaid were in leceipt of tho bequest of £500 from tho executors of the late Mr W. Alexander. Medical Report: The following medical report was presented : We have the honour to report that during the month of February there have been 27 patients admitted to the Hospital, 23 discharged, and two deaths occurred. There are at present 25 patients being treated in the wardß. Three accident cases were admitted and nine opeiations — all of a major character — were performed. Rate : It was decided to strike a rate of 3s 9d or an additional 3d in the £1000, on the property in the Hospital district. The extra 3d, it was explained, would, mean an additional sum of £57 for the Board. Stable: A motion, proposed by Mrs Stewart, seconded by Mr Collins, that a stable be built for the nurses' horse and trap was lost on the voices. Womens' Waru : Another suggestion by Mrs Stewart, supported by Mr Collins, for the frosting of the windows of the women's ward, was held over. Accounts : Accounts to the amount of £194 15s lid were passed for payment. The same members were present, with the addition of Messrs W. C. Symes and J. A. McKenna (the Patea representatives) at the meeting of the Patea-Wanganui Charitable Aid Board. The only business transacted was the passing of the minutes and accounts (£255 19s 2d), and tho striking of a rate of 2s 6d in the £1000 — the same as last yenr. The chairman mentioned that the Btard was in a fair position financially, having a credit of • £408 sslod.
