Mr Saunders Before Ms Constituents

Mr Sounders, candidate for Selwyn, addressed a meeting of electors at Kirweo last night. He strongly oondemned tho reversal of tho non-borrowing, self reliant policy of the late Hon. John Ballance, and regretted that there was not a stron,,' economist in the Houie. He characterised the session of 1896 as the most useless and expensive tbat had ever me?, the reason being that about 30 members were pledged to support Bicherd Seddon and not beneficial legislation. He oondemned the recent banking inquiry as a waste of time, but defended Mr G. Hutchison in the position he had taken up in that inquiry. He explained that he had not supported the Opposition, as he did not look upon them as economists. Ho received a vote of thanks and confidence.
