PICKING OAKUM.
(Per 'Frisco Mail.) Oscar Wilde, tho eithete who is now doing "time!' e,t Pentonville, has been taken off tho treadmill and put to pinking oakum, with making matches to follow. The doctors absolutely refused his being continued on the mill. He is in good health. Recently he asked a friend to send him St. Auguitine's works, and some historical books. His plays are abont to make their reappearance on the English stage. The Grand Theatre announoed the production "The Ideal Husband," according to a London despatch of June 30th, and prints Wilde's name as the author in large letters on the bill. Lord Alfred has bought and furnished in a most luxurious manner a bijou residance, not far from Sorrento, Italy. He has openly deolared that his avowed object is to await tbe release of Oscar Wilde, when he will at one* transport him to the Italian coast. Young Douglas has written a sonnet whioh he told a French journalist would be the first piece of reading Osoar Wilde would have from the outside world, and until tben no one would be permitted to see the manuscript. There is much speculation as to the translation of " Dorian Gray " into French. It is generally believed to be the work of Alphonfo Daudet, but anyhow it is having an immense sale, and the Darisians axe raying over it.
