Artesian Water.

Sib, — I think it is time the ratepayers held a meeting to take the water supply of the Borough into consideration. It was understood that the Conn oil had a sohezne for utilising the artesian supply whon they got it, but it seems not. It is quite evident to ordinary mortals that the supply from that source v very limited — see wells already bored. There aro millions of gallons running to waste from our reservoirs whioh, if filtered, would supply the town for years, bat that soheme is too simple for our " City Fathers."— l am, etc,

_ Mr Thomas Meehan is projecting an art tuon, the principal prizes of whioh are hand painted screens, pictures, etc, all of them very artistioally executed. Mr Meehan will be pleased to show these werks ef art to those who may call at his residence in Gayton Street, and later on they will bo publioly exhibited. ' Mrs Walker's great 'sale of winter drapery commenoed to-day, and it is stated in consequence of expiry of lease shortly, pending extensive alterations and ohanges, that all the stock should be turned into ready cash. Bargains are therefore offered in all departments at the Ladies' Emporium in Victoria Avenue, and thoio vrho know the well-appointed establishment best may rest aisured that they oan now seoure everything that is of the latest and cheapest.
