A PROTEST.
Objecting 1 to Co-eperative Works.

AtTdCLAND, Jane 4. Mr W. , Crowthw, MJ1.8., yosterday despatched the following letter to the Hen. the Premier, with reference to the decision to have the Auxiliary ABylom re-built with co-operative labour: — " With this note I am tending you a resolution passed by the Auckland Bailders' Association, who have requested me to forward the same to you as Minister of Public Works, for you* favourable consideration. They strongly assert that suoh large oums of public money should not be spent witheut being submitted to fair and open competition. They farther assert that it is the safest and sorest arid the most satisfactory way for the Government to get the work done. They did not object in the least go co-operative competition, but they also assert that if there be any good reason why they, who form a considerable portion of the Colony's taxpayers, should be shut out from such a large work (about £12,000 mentioned) the reason should be made known t# them with a view to having the matter set right at once, as they cannot afford to, continuously suffer under suoh disabilities. In terms of their request I respectfully submit the accompanying resolution for your favourable consideration."
