Commenting on the Wellington BsoiDg dab's Winter meeting, he remarks : — " Why, half the country raoing clubs can giva the W.K.O. many points in how to troat the men of pencils and paper, who, when given their just meed of acknowledgement, really make, by their continual ' advertising of the clubs in thoir notes of the week, the racing olubs what they are. Why, the racing clubs for every line they pay for get columns free, and the interest in horse-racing is maintained and fostered, not by racing clubs, but by the newspapers who keep paid sporting contributors and editors. Bacing clubs ought to treat sporting writers and reporters like princes rather than as beggars. This by the way , though few, if any, mention the matter ventilated in this grumble, I know they think the thought* here set down " Wanganui, October 31, 1894.
