At Messrs F. B. Jaokson and Co.'s sale yards to-day, Mr Little, of Orua, a specialist in connection with the diseases of sheep, made some experiments with a number of lambs to find out, if possible, the reason for the recent decimation in the young stook throughout the distriot. In opening up a ten months' old lamb numerous^ parisitio worms were found in the bronchial tubes, and the lungs, also in the intestines, fully accounting for the great mortality in that class of stock. Mr Little stated that one of these parisites was capable of depositing 300,000 eggs, and that they wore not only confined to cheep, but also to deer, goats and pigs. The eggs of these parisites are taken into the body of the sheep when grazing on defiled pastures, and rapidly germinate and multiply, causing a heavy death rate in the animals so affected. One of these worms had been known to exist for Si minutes when placed in turpentine. Mr Little, we understand, has an internal specific for the eradiation of the pest.
