Mr Graham, E.M., Captain Hanssn, of tho ihip Turakina, and Captain Leys, Assessors, held on enquiry yostorday into the oiroumstances connected with Iho s.s. Queen of the South striking a rook between Kapiti Island and the mainland on the Oth of Novomber last. From the evidence if appears that William Manley. the chief oflioei 1 , was in charge of the vessel at the time, and ho took hor through the narrow passage, lie v>ns quite sobor, and explained that the loom of tho land deceived him, being in the shade of tho island. Tho Court found that thoro was no blame attachable to Captain Harvey, but that the mate committed an error of judgment in taking the narrow passage instead of the wide passage. All the certificates were returned, but tho mate was ordered to pay tho costs of the enquiry — seven guineas.
