Bbisbane, January 30 Large bodies of shearers aro coming to from Victoria and Now South Wales under the auspices of the Pastoralistsi Union. The latter body has agreed to a conference with the Shearers' Union, on condition that the principle of freedom of contract is conceded. The first supply of Professor Koch's lymph sent to Australia has been received by a private medical man, who intends to experiment on patients in the earlier stage of consumption.
MBLBOTmNE, January 30. In reply to inquiries made by tbe Victorian Government whether it was intended to send English criminals and paupers to Australia under his emigration scheme, General Booth states that references to his book "In Darkest England " will show that the fears of the Australian Governments are groundless.
Adelaide, January 30. The Postmaster-General has received a cable messago from tho English Postal Department to the effect that the reduction of tho letter rato through Europe proved most embarrassing. Franco declares herself bound by legislation, based on an agreement arrived at in 1883, to charge all letters double tho deficiency at the old rate, and as Italy will probably do the same, tho London postal authorities therefore suggest a revocation of the new rates. Government, after discussion, decided to revert ro tjio original rates so far as France and Italy are concerned.
