THE ADMIRAL WINS THE DERBY.

Spring meeting, and it is estimated that fully fifty thousand persons were present, inoluding Lord Hopatoun, Lord Kintore and Admiral Sir Charles Scott. Flemington never presented a better appearance, and the ground was all in favour of fast times being recorded. The race wa§ slow, tho half mile taking a fraction over a minute to compass, whioh just suited the winner and in the last mile he finished like a lion. M»gio Circle, acted as whipper-in for the best part of the journey, but came with a wet sail in the straight. The Admiral juat got home by three-quarters of a length. Gatling ran a good horse, and so did Correze, but Annesley, who had been well supported, was never dangerous. Near the sheds Correze toot command, leading to the home turn, when Whimbrel again joined issue. The Spot and The Admiral now made play, and came very fast on ■ the outside, while Gatling and Magic Circle began to more. At the diitanoe post Whimbrel and Correze were done with, and at the same time The Admiral could be seen coming and apparently winning easily, until Magio Cirole mide a terrific ran, followed by Gatling, but the favourite maintained his advantage to the finish, winning by three-quarters of a length from Magio Circle, who wai half a length in front of Gatling ; then came Annesley, The Spot, Correze, WhimbereL, Granite in the order named.
