THEIR REASONS FOR WITH-
DRAWAL.

The Trades Council have received a formal letter announcing tho withdrawal of the Mercantile Marino ODioors 1 Association. Tho letter states that the Association have no longer any desire to remain affiliated with the Trades Council, as they recognise they are only a stumbling block to the peaceful settlement of the present labour difficulty.
DENNISTON UNIONIST MINERS.

Definite and reliable information as to the present attitude of the Denniston Unionist Miners is available. The report that tho men intend to take a ballot as to resuming is unfounded j they are firm in their determination to fight it out to the bitter end. The Unoinists admit there is no chance of work thiß year, but consider matters are shaping in their favour. One hundred pounds strike donation has been received from the Amalgamated Miners' Association of Australasia.
Labour leaders in this district have «■ ceived no instructions to resume work.
