His dam Empress, by Napoleon, was import.d by the late John Nimmo, Esq. She wis also the dam of Montrose, g.g., sire of Mr Wall's Pride of Scotland. Empress has been exhibited seven times, taking three first and four second prizes. Empress is full-sister to Emperor, who has been the champion horse of Otago for maiy years, Iv 1881 he wan seleoted by the Knapdale Society, at the Dunsdin Show, to travel in their district. Napoleon's sire, George Bnohanan, by Tom, who gained the premium at Cupar, Fife, was bred by Mr Buohinan, Coldrach, ont of his prize mare, who gained a number of first prizes at Drymen Show, and .likewise the Highland Society's priza of £10. Napoleon, when two years old, gained the first prize at Buohlyvie and Gutmore Agricultural Sooiety's Bhow { when three years o'd, the Inyerary premium to serve mares in that district, and the following year the premium in the southern distriot of Forfarshire ; and after travelling a number of seasons in Otago, where he bad been successful both in the stud and show ring, he was cold for £400 to Win. Of Musket it is needless to write ; hii sons— Martini-Henri, Trenton, Nordenfeldt, Matchlock, and » soore of othersspeak his fame. Fanny Fisher, the dam of Torpedo, is by that great English horso Fisherman, ont of Coquette, and descends on her sire's side from two St. Leger winners. Coquette also has a strain of the same blood through Sheet Anohor. When we read that Sylvia (the dam of Martini- Henri) is by Fisherman, and Onyx (dam of Nordenfeldt) is by a son of Fisherman, it will be seen how cloiely Torpedo is related to theio celebrities. All Fanny Fisher's stock, viz,— Kingfisb, Hippocampus, Isaab Walton, Pisoatorions, Fishwoman, Fishgirl, and Torpedo— have won races over all distances, and the first fonr-named have all sired winners.
