AUCKLAND.
May 10. William Sloane, a chemist at Wangarei, was found dead in bed, from taking an overdose of chloral. Harriman, a long distance champion walker, was a passenger by the Mararoa for Australia to contest with Edwards Among the passengers by the Tainui was Mr Bryce, the late Native Minister. He returns in good health, aud was welcomed by Messrs E. Mitohelson, Peacock, Mobs, M.Hi \ R.s, Sir Frederick Whitaker, and other friends. The Hon. John Bryce, late Native Minister, was presented to-day with an address Bigned by a number of the leading citizena at the Chamber of Commerce. The Mayor presented the address, and Mr Bryce made a suitable reply. Three cheera were given for him at the close, He leavea for Wellington to-morrow by the Tainui.
