WELLINGTON.
October 14.
The Government intend to enforce strict examination of ail vessels arriving at any port of the colony from the iracific Islands, in consequence of the danger ot the fever epidemic. The Government have forwarded a formal invitation to the Queen of Rarotonga to visit Wellington and see the Exhibition. If she wishes to viait Canterbury and Otago every facility will be offered her to do so. it is expected that she will come down in the Janet isicoll, but, if not, piobably the Hinemoa will be sent for her.
The Dunedin Garrison Band to-day forwarded a protest to Wellington against the band contest award, on the ground that the judge's published report will not bear criticism by mu&ical experts.
